An Introduction for New Researchers:

Are you doing human subject research? 
 
  • IRB review is only required when you are doing human subject research
 
 
  • Other Resources: OHRP Decision tree to help determine if your project is human subject research
 
  • If you are not doing human subject research, but you are still requesting an IRB review determination.  You may submit at Exempt application for “Not Human Subject Research Determination
   
What type of IRB review do you need?
  There are three types of IRB review levels: Exempt Review, Expedited Review, and Full Board Review.
 
 
 
  • Full Board Review - for studies involving more than minimal risk or is otherwise not eligible for exempt/expedited review
   
How do you notify the IRB about new information on a protocol?
 
 

For HSRC -

  1. To change the HSRC application, protocol, or other study documents- submit an Amendment/Update form
  2. To submit a continuing review
  3. To close a study
  4. Other notifications - please submit general correspondence to HSRC that references the study title, protocol number, and principal investigator
