Dear Colleagues

We wanted to let you know that the Human Subjects Research Committee has restructured over the summer in anticipation of accreditation and a new electronic system.

There is a new application form, protocol template and consent template to better guide you through the process. All are available on this web site.

If you have questions about the new process or would like help completing the new forms, HSRC administrative staff is available Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday's in Suite 300, Room 307 of the Lawrence Street Building, or call 303-315-2732.

HSRC staff is also available to attend departmental or staff meetings to explain the revised process. Just contact any of the people listed in the section below to schedule.

Please familiarize yourself with the documents on the Policies and Definitions page. Research involving human subjects is a complex and highly regulated endeavor. The rights and protection of participants in such research is the IRB's principal goal.

Your feedback as we work to improve the consistency and efficiency of review would also be much appreciated.

The HSRC will be meeting the 3rd Tuesday of each month during the Spring Semester of 2008. Full Board review applications need to be submitted to the office by the 1st of the month.

Exempt/Expedited can be submitted at anytime.

1. Log In to the HSRC site using the log in box on the right.
2. If your e-mail address is not registered, then click the register link, fill in the information, and then Log In once you receive your confirmation.
3. After logging in, select the "Protocol Manager" menu item on the left (it will be available once you successfully log in).
4. From Protocol Manager, select the menu item "Request New Number".
5. Select your Role on the Protocol (whether Principal Investigator or Study Coordinator), hit "Next".
6. Complete the rest of the request form and hit submit. (Fill in the form completely)
7. You will be notified via e-mail of your new protocol number
8. Download the application form and necessary attachments for you protocol
9. Complete these forms using the protocol number you've been assigned and submit the packet of information using one of the prescribed method
